Menu Planning Monday 1/17-1/23/11

I got a little sidetracked last week on my $100.00/wk food budget.  I made one extra trip to the store because one of the meals I planned to cook didn't sound so good to me when it was time to cook it so I stopped by Kroger and this is the conversation I had with myself:

"I just need pepperoni and shredded cheddar cheese, but I don't which is better: mild or sharp so I'll get both.  Oh, and Terrance requested pop tarts, and I think we're low on Coke, and I have to bring snacks for Ian's basketball team and Evan's classroom so I'll go ahead and get that. I really want a Braum's banana split so I'll pick up some strawberry topping...oh, and bananas.  This caramel sauce looks good too.  Ian keeps asking for yogurt, that's good for you so I'll get the kid some yogurt.  These chicken cutlets are on sale so I'll pick up one.  Oh, my goodness, Christmas clearance items 75% off...that's almost free.  This would be a cute tree topper for next year."  And this conversation with myself went on and on until I ran up a $75.00 grocery bill!!

This week I'm refocused.  If I forget something then too bad and if I don't want to make what's on my list for that day...then too bad especially if I have to head back to the grocery store!  I have proven to myself that I lack discipline if I don't stick to a list!

Monday: Build Your Own pizza with our Pizza Dome

Tuesday: King Ranch Chicken

Wednesday: Cheeseburgers and Fries

  1. I found your blog at MPM. As I read your conversation with yourself(in Krogers), I just had to laugh! It sounded so much Like me. I have found, lately, that if I always keep 2 gallons of milk and an extra loaf of bread (in the freezer) it keeps me from doing the "quick run-ins" without my list! Please stop by my blog if you get a chance.

  2. Your menu looks great. I'm trying to keep our grocery budget under $100/wk, too. I see bloggers saying they're cooking for $50 a week, and I'm thinking "How in the world and where do you live?" LOL. Anyway, hope you have a great week!
