News from the Woods

I am from a small town in East Texas where not a lot goes on so when something (no matter how major or minor) does happen in The Piney Woods. You best be sure I'm going to get a phone call about it.  But this news kind of took me by surprise.  My mom's doctor for umpteen years now, Dr. Alexander Orlov was arrested on fraud charges on Wednesday.  Read more about the story here. Yep, the Feds just waltzed right in while the doc was seeing patients and escorted him out in handcuffs and threw him behind bars.  How embarrassing.

Now I've known  Dr. Orlov for quite some time obviously.  I've accompanied my mom to her doctors appointments and I've shot the breeze with him and I must say that this kind of took me by surprise.  But who I most feel sorry for are his wife and kids.  It takes a strong woman to stand by her man when he's done wrong. (Let's just say that Terrance better wait until I'm a little stronger before he decides to indulge in a life of crime!) I also feel sorry for his patients because he was one of the few doctors in the area that did accept Medicare/Medicaid and now those patients, my mom included, have to find another doctor to assume care of them.  Everything happens for a reason so maybe there is a silver lining in this cloud.

I must remind myself that everyone is innocent until proven guilty so maybe the federal authorities were just a little bit off on this one!  We'll see.
