Evan: Mommy did you know that a chicken can be someones pet?
Me: Yes
Evan: Is it the same chicken that we eat as food?
Me: Umm...(pausing while I wonder if it really took him 5 years to figure this one out...I thought this kid was smart)

a few seconds later...

Me: Yes Evan, but we don't eat the chickens that people keep as pets. Only the chickens that farmers raise for us to eat.
Evan: complete silence
Me: hoping that he doesn't stop eating yard bird chicken now since it's pretty much a staple in the Lofton diet!
