Judging. We are all guilty of it. Although the bible instructs us not to judge, we do it anyway. Sometimes we aren't even aware of it... but we do it.
We judge the pregnant 15yr old at church, the gay coworker, the bum on the corner with the 40 oz beer, the kid with the sagging pants, the guy with the tatoos on his arms and neck, our friend who's a buddhist, our friend who's kid committed suicide, the muslim convenience store worker, the pro choice politician, the mom who's kids are out of control on the playground, the mom who gave her kid up for adoption, the mom who chose to have 19 kids, the family with the stay at home dad.....you get my point.
We ourselves don't have a heaven or hell to assign anyone to so my proposal is that we become more mindful of our judgement of others whether thought or spoken.
My mom used to play a gospel song on the radio by The Williams Brothers back in the day, and the chorus went like this....."sweep around your own front door before you try and sweep around mine" I'd say those are words to live by.
Matthew 7:1-5
NIV: 1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
Amplified: 1 DO NOT judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves. 2For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you [use to] deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you. 3Why do you stare from without at the very small particle that is in your brother's eye but do not become aware of and consider the beam of timber that is in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, Let me get the tiny particle out of your eye, when there is the beam of timber in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first get the beam of timber out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the tiny particle out of your brother's eye.
